Our Program

AGES 5-12

FSYB is proud to bring Canada Basketballs Jr.NBA/WNBA program to Fort Saskatchewan.

2025 programming will include:

7U (5-7 years old in 2025)

9U (8-9 years old in 2025)

12U (10-12 years old in 2025)

Fundamental learning with smaller teams and 3x3 game scenarios during practice times.

These teams will practice once a week for 45min-1hr.

These teams are designed to be co-ed.

Fundamental learning with smaller sized teams.

4x4 game scenarios on Saturdays in the second half of the program.

These teams will practice once a week for 1 hr.

Games will run Saturday mornings in Fort Saskatchewan for 6 weeks October - December.

Fundamental and grassroots programming focusing on individual skill basics.

5x5 full court game scenarios on Saturdays in the second half of the program.

These teams will practice 1hr once a week and will have 6 weeks of games on Saturday mornings October - December

Ages 13-18

We believe in all youth having the chance to hone in on their skills in the off season, or try it out for the first time, without a lot of sacrifices for our community families. Our program supports Jr. High and High School kids to grow in the sport and have fun doing it.

15U (13-15 years old in 2025, or grades 7-9)

- These practices will focus on refining the fundamental skills of basketball. Youth will learn from a coach, develop their personal skills and build as a team. We want youth in our community to play with their friends and will have an opportunity to request teams/coaches when registering. We will run practices once a week, for 1hr, and incorporate game play, as much as possible, to allow players to get comfortable on the court.

18U (16-18 years old in 2025, or grade 10-12)

- These practices will focus on refining the fundamental skills of basketball to make them a successful team player. A coach will guide these players to refine their skills and have fun with team success. Practices will run once a week for 1hr, and incorporate game play as much as possible to allow these youth to enjoy the sport, try it for the first time, or build their competitive edge.

Coaching Development

Coaches lead teams

Education of our community coaches is a great way to help lead our kids to success in any sport.

By building skills and confidence in our parent and community volunteers, we can help build our youth through examples of fair play, good sportsmanship, and fundamental skills.

Each Jr.NBA/WNBA coach will have Tier 1 coaching packaging including free access to Canada Basketball Game Plan account. This will include not only FUNdamental and Safe Sport Training, but a database of lesson plans, drills and coaching support from across the country.

Our FSYB coaches are also held to a high standard under Canada Basketball Policies and procedures including Coaching Association of Canada, Safe Sport, inclusion training and more.

We also run under Fort Saskatchewan Minor Sports Association which requires all our coaches to complete a Vulnerable Sector Check Background.

FSYB also provides opportunity to advance our coaches to more education, more resources and more support including safety for our athletes and coaches by abiding in the Rule of Two and other CAC guidelines.

Officiating

You can't play ball without good refs

Officiating basketball is a tough gig.

We want to build positive growth experiences for older youth in our community who want to build their skills and confidence when officiating a basketball game and ensuring fair play and safety on the court.

We have built a program that will give on court experience, with guidance and coaching, so they safely learn confidence in order to officiate in the school season. In 2024, 6 of our FSYB officials went on to ref Junior High Basketball for EIPS School Division.
